All members of Sacred Heart Parish are cordially invited to the blessing and dedication of our new parish hall on Saturday, Sept. 5th, beginning with Holy Mass at 5:30 pm with Dodge City Bishop John Brungardt and Father Charles followed by a procession into the new hall. The Bishop will bless the rooms and a celebration feast will follow with meat provided by the Knights of Columbus.
This event marks an important milestone in the history and growth of the People of God in this area.
The Catholic community in Pratt began in 1885 with 23 families. The first church was a white frame building dedicated to St. James. A new red brick church replaced it in 1907, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Over the next five decades, a convent and school were built and the current church was built and dedicated in 1953.
In 1961 the rectory was built, and the school was replaced in 1968.
The parish buildings changed little until 1980, when Sacred Heart Church was renovated.
Now, 46 years later, the facilities are being updated and we have a beautiful new parish hall with a chapel, offices, Religious Education and meeting rooms, and a large, professional kitchen.
Join us as we praise and thank God for the grace we have received to see through this long project!
Saturday evening, September 5th beginning with Mass at 5:30 pm in the church with Bishop John B. Brungardt. We hope that all parishioners will join us for this long prayed-for and long worked-for solemn blessing, dedication, and celebration of thanksgiving!
