May 2015 Rel. Ed. Newsletter

Wow where did the year go.  It has been busy and a great experience.  If you have any ideas for next year or improvements, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Thank you for a great year this year. I would like to extend a special thank you to my catechists. The catechists are invited to our annual Appreciation Dinner at 6pm on the May 6th at the Club D'est.
Our big event in May is First Communion. Practice for all First Communion students is Friday May 1st from 4-4:30pm in the church and then practice for students and parents is 10am on Saturday the 2nded in the church. First Communion will be celebrated during a separate 2:00PM Mass on Sunday May 3rd. Please pray for the students as they receive Jesus for the first time. We do have a large group this yearl.

Sunday, May 10th, during our 8:30am Mass we will celebrate our graduates. All High School and College graduates are invited to wear their cap and gowns to Mass and sit up front. Coffee and rolls will
be served after Mass. Congratulations on a job well done and good luck in the future. I will mail out invitations to the High School Seniors on my list.   If you know of someone else please invite them or let me know.

Totus Tuus will be the week of June 14-19th. All K-5th graders from this year are invited to the day time program from 9am-3pm Monday through Friday. Registrations will be mailed in mid-May and the cost is $10 per students. All 6th-11th grade students are invited to the youth program from 7:30-9:45pm Sunday through Thursday that
week. Cost here is also $10 per student. Please keep up to date with the information via the bulletin and the website. I hope your student can attend. This will be a great part of the summer.  This does occur during the 2nd week of the Theatre Camp at PCC.  Your student is welcome to come during the morning and then attend the camp.  Even part of a day is a good thing.

All 5th-8th grade students are invited to the Diocesan youth camps in June this year. A registration form is available online at www.dcdiocese.org/youth, look for the Summer Youth Camp registration. Deadlines are May 22nd for the 5th/6th grade camp and June 5th for the 7th/8th grade camp. These are a faith filled experience. Please consider participating.

Calling all Sophomores and older to Teens Encounter Christ (TEC). We have one TEC weekend this summer.  It is July 11-13th in Garden City.  This can be a very spiritual weekend and it will be right here in our parish. You can sign up on the diocese's website at www.dcdiocese.org/youth.

We have a new offering for High School students this summer through Prayer in Action Misson Opportunity for High School Students 2015.  There will be three weeks of Prayer and Action:  June 14-19 (Garden City); July 5-10 (Saint John); July 26-31(Ness City). Prayer in Action provides meaningful opportunities to high school aged students and their adult leaders to do mission work right here within the boundaries of our own diocese.  Prayer and Action sessions last five days, with students arriving on a Sunday evening and then staying until the next Friday morning.  Throughout the week the students will paint, clean, do yard work, and perform other meaningful tasks, for the poor, handicapped, and the elderly.  The students will spend the week in an atmosphere, free of distractions, which will foster their faith, ideas of service, and love of Catholic values.  Each session will also allow them to get to know other high school students from other parts of the diocese who share in their Catholic beliefs.

The Prayer and Action experience will be facilitated by the mission team that will consist of a seminarian, as well as other dynamic young adults.  This team will meet the students and adult leaders on Sunday evening and guide all participants through the week.  There are approximately 30 participants in each session.  Thank you to the local contacts who are helping make this happen.  Students’ housing for the week will be located at parishes, sleeping in sleeping bags or on air mattresses throughout the week.  Food preparations will also be taken care of at the housing site by the students, adult leaders, and mission team.  Every parish within the diocese is invited to bring high school students to participate in the program.  Prayer and Action also asks that for every eight youth, one adult leader also attend.  Adult leaders need to comply with Diocesan Safe Environment policies (background check and Protecting God’s Children Session).  They will share the same experience as the youth and are asked to be positive role models throughout the week’s activities.

Cheyenne Becker from Pratt and Michaela Gleason from Meade are students at K State and are leading up our Diocesan effort at Prayer and Action for Summer 2015.  Videos are available featuring Cheyenne and Michaela sharing their passion for Prayer and Action at http://www.dcdiocese.org/prayer-and-action.  They are also willing to come to your parish and especially your youth group to share about Prayer and Action and invite participation.

The fee for each participant (youth and adult) is $100.00 for the week.

For sign up and more information go to the Dodge City Diocese Prayer and Action Page: http://www.dcdiocese.org/prayer-and-action.  Please let me know if you sign up.   I would be willing to take students to the Ness City or St. John event.

Have a safe and blessed summer.
