August 2017 PSR news

August is upon us and we prepare to start the school year and Parish School of Religion (PSR) year soon.  I will have enrollment forms on the website and in the office for PSR after August 15th.  We are switching the K-6th grade curriculum this year to the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies, you can see more at this website: http://www.pflaumweeklies.com.  The Gospel Weeklies are a liturgical calendar based curriculum, so they will follow the readings for each week.  This will be a great way to connect what they are learning with what they hear at Mass.  The High School classes will meet on Wednesday night as well this.  Our Sunday meetings sometimes had very low attendance last year.  We hope switching to Wednesday night will help with that.  Our first PSR night will be the annual Family Mass at 7pm on September 6.  The Women of Sacred Heart will provide a light meal before the Mass at 6pm in the cafeteria.

K-8th grade March 2017 Rel Ed. News

We are beginning Lent this month.  Our Lenten Family Night for K-5th grade PSR is on March 1st.  This will be our last Family night of the year.  Thank you to Rita Hitt, Rhonda Westerhaus, Linda Conkle, and Christina Howell for teaching our sessions and thank you to all the parents that have attended.    We will have regular PSR for 6-8th grade on the 1st of March.  K-8th grade PSR will meet March 8th, 15th, and 29th but not the 22nd due to Spring Break.

Feb. 2017 K-8 News

Welcome to the second month of 2017.  I hope you have had a good start to your year.  February is pretty standard for our K-8th grade PSR classes.  We will meet every Wednesday night at 7pm as usual. March 1st is Ash Wednesday and we will have a K-5th grade Family night about Lent that night.  Each student/family is asked to bring an adult with them.

Welcome to the Religious Education Website

Hello,  Welcome to our new website.  Please check back to the Religious Education section of the website to find out more about PSR and the events happening in Religious Education.  In the fall we will have online registration for PSR and I will use the website calendar to put up changes to our events for Religious Education.  As the summer goes by, I will add documents of interest to the documents area. So please check back often.  If you find some great websites or information you want to share with the parents and students, then please email it to me.  My email is located on the side panel of this page.

Happy New Year.  I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.  The weather was a bit rough but I hope Christ came to each of you in a special way.  As a continuation of Christ's coming we invite you to our PSR Family Mass at 7pm on Jan. 13th in the church.  This is a chance to begin the New Year and the last half of PSR with a wonderful coming of Christ in the Eucharist.  All are welcome.  There will not be regular PSR class that night.  PSR will resume for K-8th grade at 7pm on the 20th and 27th of January.  No PSR on Jan. 6th due to Catechist training.

High School PSR will begin again on Jan. 3rd and Jan 17th at 6:30pm-8pm.  Also in February, the diocese puts on its annual JOY (Jesus, Others, You) retreat for all high school Freshman and Sophomores in Garden City.  Go to http://www.dcdiocese.org/youth and the sign up is on the right hand side of the page.

Confirmation students and sponsors, we will have the Rite of Enrollment for Confirmation during the 8:30am Mass on Sunday, January 24th.  If your sponsor can not be present a parent can stand in for this rite.  This will begin the final preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation which will be celebrated on March 9th.

Catechists are invited to the ITV session offered in the Church basement of the alley on either Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 6-9pm or Saturday, Jan. 9 from 9-12pm.  We will have a light dinner on Jan. 6th and coffee/rolls on the 9th.  Father Gale will be teaching on 5 ways that the World wounds.  This is a great teaching and I think you would benefit from it.

May God Bless you as we enter another year.

December 2015 Rel. Ed. Newsletter

Happy Thanksgiving to you.   I wanted to share with you about a wonderful experience of attending NCYC in Indianapolis, IN from Nov. 19-21st.  We took 10 adults (including Fr. McKinney) and 17 students.  We left at 8:30pm on Wed. the 18th and returned around 1pm on Sunday the 22nd.   We heard great Christian music and had wonderful speakers.  The theme this year was Here I am Lord.   And many of the talks focused on being available to do God's will but they also spoke about God accepting and loving us no matter what we have done or how we live.   I think two main things stick out for me.  The first was the Adoration on Friday night.  The music was lead by Matt Maher and was awesome.  The best part was the total silence in the stadium with 23,000+ teens and adults during silent adoration.  It was a profound site.  The second was the final Mass on Saturday.  Again the music during the celebration was awe inspiring but also was the presence of 23,000 people for Mass.  I bet it was the largest Mass that weekend.   I want to thank the chaperones for their hard work.  I want to thank the students for great participation.   A great appreciation to the parents for giving us the care of your students for those days and the sacrifice on your part.  Thank you parish for all you do to support us. And finally thank you Father Floyd for the attendance and your ministry of presence and love.

We will have regular PSR for K-8th grade on December 2 and 9th.  Then on December 16th I would like to invite families and parish members to help our PSR students make Christmas cards for our home bound and those in care facilities during our December 16th PSR night.   I will need people to donate snacks (nothing with peanut butter due to alergies) and some punch.  I will also need help setting up.
I think this would be a great way to involve our students in some fun and helping activity on the last class before Christmas break.
There will not be PSR on Dec. 23 or 30th due to Christmas break and also on Jan. 6th is the Catechist ITV, so no PSR that night either.  We will resume classes on Jan. 13th with a Family Mass at 7pm, meaning families are invited to attend with their students.

High School PSR will meet Dec. 6th at 6:30pm and also Dec. 20th at 6:30pm for our Christmas Party.  Father will celebrate a Mass at 5:30pm on the 20th of December.  We invite all members of the parish to attend but especially our youth and their families.  Psst, this will also cover your Sunday obligation so you can sleep in Sunday morning. Just a reminder about the High School Youth Rally on Dec. 6th in Dodge City at the Civic Center from 11:30-5pm.

I would also like to remind First Reconciliation Parents that we will have practice for students from 4-4:30pm in the church on Dec 4th and First Reconciliation will be on Saturday Dec. 5th at 1pm with a cookie reception after.  First Reconciliation centers will be during PSR on the 2nd in the gym,  this is for parent and student.

Have a Merry Christmas.

Our K-8th grade PSR students will meet Wednesday Nov. 4th, 11th, and 18th for PSR but not on the 25th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  High School PSR will meet Nov. 1st and 15th from 6:30-8pm.  The Diocese High School gathering will be Dec. 6th in Dodge City.
I also want to remind the 8th grade to 12th grade students about helping with the Turkey Dinner on Nov. 8th.  11th and 12th grade students able to drive and asked to help deliver carry out order for the Turkey dinner from 11:15-1pm.  9th and 10th grade students are asked to help clear table and carry trays from 12-1pm and 8th graders will do the same from 1-2pm.  This is an all parish event that benefits all. Please plan to help in some way.
First Reconciliation is fast approaching for our students.  Dec. 2nd is First Reconciliation centers for parents and students in the gym.  First Reconciliation practice will be for students from 4-4:30pm on the 4th of December.  First Reconciliation will be on Saturday Dec. 5th at 1pm in the church with a cookie reception afterwards.

High School parents:   Our main topic in High School class for the first 2 or 3 sessions will be focuses on the Gay Marriage issue.  What do the students think of it,  what society "teaches", and what the church and God teaches.  We invite honest discussion and we will challenge your students but we can only grow through learning and challenges.
First Communion parents will have a meeting during PSR in the cafeteria on October 7th at 7pm.   Confirmation parent meeting will be at 7pm on October 28th in the cafeteria.
NCYC students are selling Bierocks but the deadline is October 2nd.  We will make them the weekend of Oct. 9, 10, and 11.  We are taking 17 students and 10 adults to NCYC in November.  I ask as we come closer to the travel date in November that the parish take an active role in praying for our pilgrimage to NCYC.   We are going to see the sights, hear the music, and experience the event but more importantly we are going to encounter Christ.  Please pray for our safety and also that we each find Christ on the journey.  NCYC students and sponsors we will have another meeting on October 25th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the school cafeteria.

Adult Education:  We are continuing to study the book of Acts on Thursdays from 6:30pm to 8pm.  It is not too late to join us.  We meeting in the parish office area.
God Bless,  Erin Crouch, Director of Religious Education.

December 2014 Rel. Ed. Newsletter

I hope everyone had or will have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.  I am headed to a Youth Minister's conference in Texas the first part of December.  I ask for your prayers for safe travels and also for a great learning experience.  I hope to bring new ideas to share.

NCYC bierock fund raising went very well.  We should bring in around $3500.00.  Thank you to all who supported this effort.  We are taking around 40 people to NCYC next year and this helps alot.  The cost per person is around $600 for the trip.   Please watch for other opportunities to support our youth.   Reminder to NCYC participants that your first $50 installment is due the 1st of December.

Also there is TEC weekend offered Dec. 27 to 39th in Garden City for all Juniors and Seniors.  If you want to attend or if you want to help on the TEC team, if you have been to one before, let me know or go to the dcdiocese.org/youth site to sign up.

First Reconciliation Practice for all students enrolled in First Reconciliation  will be from 7-8pm in the Church on Wed. Dec. 10th.  First Reconciliation will be at 1pm on Saturday Dec. 13th in the church.  We will have simple reception afterwards in the school cafeteria.  Please keep these students in your prayers as we get closer to this Sacrament.

We will not have PSR during the Holidays, Dec. 24th and Dec. 31st.  I pray that you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
