October 2014 Rel. Ed Newsletter

Fall is here now.  We are really getting geared up for Religious Education.  Just a reminder that 8th grade and High School PSR classes go to 8:30pm.  Any siblings needing to wait for their older brother or sister are asked to come to the rectory basement to wait unti the older classes are done. Our regular PSR classes in October will be October 1, 8, 15, and 29th.

October 22nd is the 6th-12th grade Scavenger Hunt/Food Drive.  We need parent drivers for all of these grades.  Please let Erin know if you can drive.  If you didn't fill out a permission form and medical form at enrollment for your 6th grade or older student you can download them from the website at http://sacredheartpratt.com/k-8/documents.  Just print them out, fill them out, and send with your student.  You may put multiple students per form.

We could still use helpers in the PSR classes or to help with Day care.  Let me know.

All First Communion students and parents, we will have a parent meeting during PSR in the upstairs of the parish office (come in the front door) on October 8th at 7pm.  The First Communion Enrollment Rite will be held during Mass on October 12th at 8:30am.  Please come with your student.

Confirmation Parents we will have a meeting during PSR on October 15th in the upstairs of the parish office (come in the front door).  This will be information about the process.
NCYC students and parents, we are planning the annual bierock or hot pocket sale for October 31 to Nov. 2nd.  Please keep an eye out for forms and emails about this.

Religious Formation Commission will meet at 5:45pm on Wed. October 8th in the Parish offices.

High School Youth Rally:  Our high school rally with Steve Angrisano is set for November 22 -23.  The Diocesan Youth Council has been working on this event since their leadership weekend in August.  Part of the planning for the rally includes a change of venue.  The Rally will be held at the Dodge House Hotel/Convention Center.  Be on the look out for more information about this in October.  The diocese works hard to bring in good presenters and many of us have heard Steve Angrisano sing and talk at NCYC.

It is almost that time again, for PSR to start very soon.   I want to thank everyone who helped with Totus Tuus, it went over very well and I hope to do it again next summer.   As I gear up for the new school year, I am again in need of catechists.  If you taught last year and want to again this year, please send me an email or call and let me know.  I am always looking for new teachers for the year.  We are team teaching the High School this year and I could use more adults for that.

PSR enrollment forms are available on the website at www.sacredheartpratt.com/k-8/home or you can just register online through the link on the same page.  I will not be mailing out forms.  You can also pick up forms in the parish office.  The first day of PSR is September 11, 2013 at 7pm for all grades.  The cost this year is $30 for a single child or $55 for 2 or more children plus $10 sacramental fee per student receiving a sacrament.

NCYC is coming closer each day.  We have a good group going this year (36 people).  We have many families who are taking 2 or 3 people.  I would like to put out a special request to anyone wanting to sponsor a student for a bus seat or any amount to please consider a donation.  The cost of a bus seat is $170 per seat but any amount is appreciated.  Donations can be made anonymously and designed to a specific person, just contact Erin.

Adult Education for Lent:  We will do two things this year for adult education during Lent.  Starting March 13th at 7pm in the school cafeteria, David Borho will lead the New Evangelization Video Series by Fr. Robert Barron.  Fr. Barron Catholicism DVD was great and this new one explores how we can reach out in our faith.    Then we will also be handing out books again.  This year we have Nothing is Impossible with God by John Michael Talbot. This is a book version of his 3 night Mission and has a wonderful prayer section on the Jesus Prayer.  John Michael also does a walk through the Liturgy.  These books will be offered after Ash Wednesday.

God Bless you in the Lenten season.

September 2013 Newsletter Rel. Ed

Hello and Welcome back from the Summer.   Parish School of Religion (PSR) starts on Wed. Sept 11th at 7PM.  Kindergarten through 6th grade will meet in the school and 7th and 8th will meet in the rectory basement. The High School will meet in the school cafeteria.  Please enroll your student if you haven't already.  Forms are available in the office, to be downloaded from the website, or fill out the form online at www.sacredheartpratt.com/k-8/home.  I am in need of an 8th grade catechist and also one more High School team member.  Pray and consider helping with this important ministry.

Thursday September 5th at Pratt Community College is the Church night from 8-10PM, this is a chance for the students to "check out" the churches in Pratt.  On that note, I would like to request some baked good donations to give out at the PCC church night.  This event is a chance for PCC students to learn more about our church, and a little food to give out would be great.  If you can donate please contact Erin.
If you know students at PCC, please invite them to this event.  Pizza is also provided.

All First Communion/Reconciliation parents, 2nd grade mostly, we will have a parent meeting in the church on Wed. Sept. 18th from 7-8PM to discuss the plans for the year. Then on Sunday September 22nd at the 8:30AM Mass we will have the Enrollment of First Communion students during Mass.  This is a simple rite to begin the sacramental preparation in a spiritual way and a chance for the parish to connect with the students.

All catechists, please notice the ITV sessions on September 4th from 6-9PM or7th from 9-12AM.  A light meal will be provided on Wed. evening.  All catechists will be commissioned at Sunday Mass on September 15th.  Please plan to attend.

I would like to provide all 7th and 8th grade students with a youth bible and also a copy of the Youth Catechism (YouCat).  I am asking for donations from parishioners for this expense.  The cost is about $40 per student above their regular cost of books.  We will need about 25 to 30 students worth depending on the classes.  If you choose to donate to this, please indicate it on any check you send in.  Thank you for your help.

I hope everyone had or will have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.  I am going to be catching up with myself from the great trip to NCYC.  I want to thank all who donated time and money to the trip and most especially the parents who let their students go and sponsors who went.  I want to thank each student for going as well.  Our reunion for NCYC will be Dec. 15th in the afternoon (1:30pm start time) in Dodge City.  I want to get all of us to go.  This would be a great time to reconnect with your NCYC friends and also to renew your energy for the up coming New Year.

Also there is TEC weekend offered Dec. 28 to 30th in Garden City for all Juniors and Seniors.  If you want to attend or if you want to help on the TEC team, if you have been to one before, let me know or go to the dcdiocese.org/youth site to sign up.  Also the High School Youth Rally will be Sunday Jan. 5th in Dodge City.

First Reconciliation Practice for all 2nd graders will be from 4-5pm in the Church on Friday Dec. 6th.  First Reconciliation will be at 1pm on Saturday Dec. 7th in the church.  We will have simple reception afterwards in the school cafeteria.  Please keep these students in your prayers as we get closer to this Sacrament.

Wednesday Dec. 11th we will have mandatory server and cross bearer training for all 3rd to 5th grade students during PSR.   We will not have PSR during the Holidays, Dec. 25th and Jan. 1st.

I pray you have a wonderful and Christ filled Christmas.
Adult Education:

We will be giving books out to our parish during Advent from Gus Lloyd called "A Minute in the Church".  It is a handy resource for apologetics with short one minute answers to some common questions.  The books are free but if you want to donate to their cost any amount would be appreciated.

I want to personally thank the John Michael Talbot Mission team for their hard work.  The meal was a great success and the mission was as well.  We had about 171 people come and John Michael and his team were very happy with the generosity of our church and the help we gave them.  They felt very welcome and were happy that everything went so smoothly.  Thank you again and God Bless.

January 2014 Rel. Ed. Newsletter

I pray you are having or have had a wonderful and Christ filled Christmas and New Year.  Our New Year for religious education starts with the High School Youth Rally in Dodge City on January 5th.  All 8th grade and up are invited.  Please let Erin know if you want to attend so transportation can be arranged.  We open our PSR on January 8th with Mass at 7pm.  Students please come straight to church and bring your family.  Then the students will dismissed after Mass to go to their classes.  Religious Formation Commission will also meet that night at 5:45pm in the Rectory.

This year's catechist ITV session theme is "Engage the Believer:  How Catechists Proclaim the Good News" and the Presenter is Bishop John B. Brungardt.  The initial session is Saturday the 11th from 9am-12pm in the Church basement.  We will have rolls and coffee.  The second session will repeat the first but will be offered Wednesday night the 15th from 6pm-9pm and we will offer a light supper.  We will not have PSR that night.  Then PSR resumes regular schedules on Wed. nights starting the 22nd.

Confirmation is in February and we will have the Enrollment rite for candidates and sponsors during Mass on January 26th.  Please pray for the candidates as Confirmation approaches.

January is of to a slow start but things will pick up quickly.  Don't forget the stop and take time with Christ during your day and not just on Sunday.  God Bless.
