The Rite of Sending was celebrated during the 8:30AM Mass, Sunday, February 26, 2012, declaring our catechumen, Levi Jones and candidates, Kelli Gallagher and Luke Kumberg ready for the Rite of Election.  The Rite of Election was celebrated at 3PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral with Bishop John Brundgardt.  Catechumens signed the Book of the Elect and the Candidates were lead to the Baptismal font in recognition of their baptism to continue their journey for Confirmation and Eucharist.  Sponsors were asked to attest to the readiness of the catechumens and candidates.

The Period of Purfication and Enlightenment which the Rite of Election begins customarily coincides with Lent. In the liturgy and liturgical catechesis of Lent the reminder of baptism already received or the preparation for its reception, as well as the theme of repentance, renew the entire community along with those being prepared to celibrate the paschal mystery, in which each of the elect will share through the sacraments of initiation.  For both the elect and the local community, therefore, the Lenten season is a time for spiritual recollection in preparation for the celebration of the paschal mystery.  It is a period of more intense spiritual preparation, consisting more in interior reflection than in catechetical instruction and is intended to purify the minds and hearts of the elect as they search their own consciences and do penance and a deeper knowledge of Christ the Savior.  During this time the Scrutinies will be celebrated on the third, fourth, and fifth Sundays of Lent.  Following the scrutinies they will be presented with the Creed and the Our Father, the ancient texts that have always been regarded as expressing the heart of the Church's faith and prayer.  Please continue supporting our catechumen and candidates with prayers and encouragement.  The Sacraments of Initiation will be celebrated at the Easter Vigil, Saturday April 7th.

On Saturday, November 12 at 5:30PM Mass Catechumen; Levi Jones, and candidates; Luke Kumberg and Kelly Gallagher entered the Rite of the Catechumen during the Rite of Acceptance/Welcoming.  Please keep them in prayer and give them your support as they journey toward full communion with the Catholic Church.
